Dysphagia is the medical term for the symptom of difficulty in swallowing and the passage of solids or liquids from the mouth to the stomach.
People who have Dysphagia are sometimes unaware of it. I did not realise I had it until the rehabilitation specialist asked me a few questions and I realised I was drinking with meals, eating more sauces and moist meals which I had not done before. So I have mild Dysphagia which occassionally causes coughing and choking.
Some signs and symptoms of Dysphagia include difficulty controlling food in the mouth, inability to control food or saliva in the mouth, difficulty initiating a swallow, coughing, choking and a husky voice.
Dysphagia has many causes and is seen in many diseases and often seen in myositis.

Hi, out for supper Friday 13th and I had my first serious dysphagia problem aspirated some juice into the wrong "tube' but also had a piece of fruit in my mouth; couldn't talk or cough, had to spit out fruit daintily as poss. into serviette and finally able to cough, but was scared I was going to choke or throw up.
